Gold Together Champions Take Action to End Childhood Cancer
A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming at any age, but it is particularly devastating when a child is diagnosed. Childhood cancer is the leading disease-related cause of death for children and adolescents ages 1 to 19. More than 9,900 children in the U.S. under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year and 1 in 5 won’t survive the disease.
The American Cancer Society is dedicated to increasing awareness, supporting families facing this diagnosis, and raising funds to end childhood cancer. Spearheading these efforts, childhood brain cancer survivor Cole Eicher created an initiative called the Gold Together Champions Campaign which raises funds for the American Cancer Society during September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The Gold Together Champions initiative was inaugurated in 2020 and has raised $11 million nationwide. These funds directly support childhood cancer research and education. Currently, the American Cancer Society is funding 44 multi-year research grants for a total of $26 million specific to childhood cancer. In addition, funds support advocacy and services as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children to help reduce their risk for cancer later in life.
Join the Gold Together Champions of California virtual campaign this September and give hope to the courageous kids impacted by this disease. Champions can be solo individuals, clubs, friends, groups, or even entire schools, and each champion sets a fundraising goal between $1,000 and $2,500+. Show support for childhood cancer by wearing a gold ribbon during the month of September and inspiring others to help make a difference by donating online.
Individuals and teams can sign up online now and throughout 2023 at www.ACSEngage.org/GoldTogetherChampionsCA and take part in the National Kickoff Call on August 30, 8 p.m. EST.
Top fundraising participants will be recognized on the American Cancer Society Gold Together website and on a National Impact Call following the campaign on Oct 12, 8 p.m. EST.
Join a community of like-minded volunteers and supporters who believe that the future can be free from childhood cancer. When you selflessly devote your time and energy to lead the fight against cancer, you become the voice of the American Cancer Society in your community.
