The Heat Is On – ANCO Design Build
Is global warming real? If you believe in nature and mother earth, then the reality of temperatures increasing every year tells us that we are experiencing a major climate change. This is very real and incredibly challenging. Besides being very inconvenient, this climate change will be expensive. The recent heat wave has shown us how the new normal of living with flex alerts and random power grid failures is now the new normal.
The California power grid is outdated, and it cannot keep up with consumer demand. Also, recent political changes regarding the burning of fossil fuels like natural gas, is placing a greater demand on the power grid. Natural gas was banned in new construction in LA City in 2022, and the ban on natural gas is spreading statewide. The grid is not set up to deal with the extra electrical demands of all electric homes. Since the state cannot expand the grid fast enough to support consumer demand, they have decided to allow our utility providers a new rate structure during the 4 to 9 pm peak demand usage. That means that you will pay 50% more when using electricity during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
There is a viable and affordable solution. Solar combined with storage batteries will generate free electricity from the sun, store it in a battery backup system, and you can use that energy during those peak demand hours. The Federal and State governments still have excellent incentives that will shorten the repayment on your energy investment. Incentives are changing, and as rates continue to increase, these incentives will be phased out. Now is the best time to invest in your power management. Solar is at an all time low, but as electrical rates go up, the price will go up. Start by having your roof and electrical panel inspected and upgraded for the future. With current incentives, your roof and electrical panel will qualify for these incentives. Also, consider installing a generator for complete power grid outages and lock in your solar prices before they go up.
