Monthly Message From City Manager Ken Striplin Family Lit Fest – 16th Annual Family Literacy Festival
The Santa Clarita Public Library fills a crucial need in our community, providing a welcoming environment for various activities, such as conducting research, getting a passport, activities for children and of course, simply enjoying a good book. In the spirit of encouraging healthy reading habits for our youth, the Library is hosting the 16th annual Family Literacy Festival. The festival will occur on Saturday, December 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Branch and this year’s theme is truly out of this world – “Take Me to Your Reader.” This alien-inspired theme, which everyone can enjoy, features various hands-on activities, storytimes, live performances and giveaways.
By popular demand, “Wonder Wheels” will once again be rolling to the event. This activity allows kids and parents to explore and interact with various vehicles used throughout our City, including fire engines, Sheriff’s patrol cars and City trucks. Aside from “Wonder Wheels,” the parking lot will be packed with various activities and crafts for all age groups. On the main stage audiences will enjoy live performances and dynamic storytimes, all orbiting around the interstellar theme.
In addition to encouraging a love of reading, the Family Literacy Festival reflects the Santa Clarita Public Library’s deep-rooted commitment to enriching our community. This annual event not only promotes literacy, but also fosters a sense of togetherness among our residents. Make this event an opportunity to discover all the Library has to offer for your family – from resources, such a job preparation and homework help, to amazing events and reading challenges. So, mark your calendars on December 2, and join us at the Family Literacy Festival. For more information, please visit SantaClaritaLibrary.com.
