“I Love You. Get Screened.” American Cancer Society
February is Black History Month as well as National Cancer Prevention Month and the American Cancer Society invites everyone to join the fight to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Research reported by the American Cancer Society has shown that many cancer deaths in the United States could be avoided by pursuing healthy lifestyle choices, avoiding smoking, and getting recommended cancer screenings. This month share your love with friends and family by telling them, “I love you. Get screened.” For information about recommended cancer screenings and locations, visit cancer.org/getscreened.
In addition, The American Cancer Society is conducting an ambitious, long-term study, VOICES of Black Women, that aims to enroll at least 100,000 Black women in the U.S. over the next few years. The goal of this study is to understand how the unique, lived experiences of Black women impact overall health and cancer risk. The American Cancer Society hopes to better understand health conditions like cancer and how to improve overall health among Black women. The best way to improve our quality of health is by investing in the opportunities to make change happen. Your voice could help improve the health of Black women for generations to come. Visit voices.cancer.org for more information or to join us today.
All this work is made possible by volunteers in communities like Santa Clarita that support the local Relay For Life. You and your loved ones can register a team, volunteer, and join our community in celebrating cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost to cancer, and raising funds for advocacy, research, and patient support to improve the lives of people with cancer and their caretakers. Sign up early at www.SCVRelay.org and be a part of our February Leap Day challenge! Raise $29 on February 29 at SCVRelay.org and you could win a prize! Follow our website and social media for more details. Your support is key to ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.
