Cancer Does Not Stop—and Neither Does the American Cancer Society
May is National Cancer Research Month, and the American Cancer Society is commended for its efforts to fund life-saving cancer research leading to major breakthroughs which have resulted in 4.1 million fewer cancer deaths. Since 1946, the American Cancer Society has invested more than $5 billion in cancer research. No single non-governmental, not-for-profit organization in the U.S. has invested more to find the causes and cures of cancer. It currently supports more than 700 active grants with over $473 million in investments to uncover factors that cause cancer, discover even more beneficial treatments, and improve cancer patients’ quality of life.
In order to support this vital research, Relay For Life of Santa Clarita Valley is hosting its 26th annual Relay event on May 4th at Central Park—27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, 91350, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This event brings together our community to celebrate cancer survivors, their caregivers, and their loved ones, as well as to remember those lost to cancer. Enjoy live entertainment, games, and food trucks at this family-friendly event while you support fundraising with raffle tickets and vendor items at the various booths. Those who cannot attend can still make a difference by visiting the website and making a donation at SCVRelay.org.
Fundraising does not stop with this ACS signature event. As the American Cancer Society says, “Cancer doesn’t stop—and neither do we.” Year-round fundraising is crucial. Community members can donate gently used items and shop at the ACS Discovery Shop, located in the Bouquet Shopping Center at 26570-B Bouquet Canyon Rd. Dog lovers can bring their pets to the Bark For Life Fundraiser on October 20th, and all can prepare for the holiday season by attending the ACS Holiday Boutique on November 23rd. Visit SCVRelay.org to see more event announcements.
Ending cancer as we know it, for everyone, means keeping advocacy, research, and patient support at the forefront. Donations are key to funding this important work.
