Choosing a Swim Program – Academy Swim Club
This time of year – helping our children learn to swim becomes a priority. With the heat and daily pool access approaching, children are finding water to plunge into, and we become keenly aware of how precious they are, and how easily we could lose them.
When choosing a swim program for your child, it’s important to consider various factors to ensure that it meets their needs and aligns with your expectations. Here are some questions you might ask yourself:
• What is the water temperature? Children learn best in 90 – 92 degree water.
• What are my child’s swimming goals? Determine whether your child wants to learn basic water safety skills, improve their swimming technique, or compete in swim meets.
• What is the instructor-to-student ratio? A lower ratio often allows for more personalized attention and instruction, especially for beginners.
• What is the instructor’s experience and qualifications? Ensure that the instructors are certified and experienced in teaching children of your child’s age and skill level.
• What is the teaching approach? Consider whether the program focuses on skill development, water safety, or a combination of both. Some programs might also incorporate fun activities to keep children engaged.
• Is the facility safe and well-maintained? Check whether the swimming pool meets safety standards, and if the facility is kept clean.
• What is the program’s reputation? Read reviews from other parents, ask for recommendations, and research the program’s success stories or any complaints.
• Does the program offer opportunities for progression? Determine if the program has options for advancing to higher skill levels.
By considering these questions, you can make a more informed decision when choosing a swim program that best suits you and your child’s needs and preferences.
