Donors, Shoppers and Volunteers Assistance League
Some volunteers state that working in the Assistance League Resale Store is a treasure hunt that occurs every day. It is true that they never know what will be donated from the next car that drives up to meet our team. One day last year, a donation was taken straight to the toy department in our sorting area. The boxes were familiar; we knew they contained Madame Alexander dolls. All sizes and descriptions of these beautiful new dolls greeted us. Special standouts were the many exquisitely-costumed Shirley Temple dolls. What fun it was for the volunteers to set them up in a lovely display on the sales floor.
When the store opened the next day, one customer knew that she had to buy one of the dolls for her elderly bedridden mother. She had always wanted one, but since she had grown up during the Great Depression in a large family, a beautiful Shirley Temple doll had never been financially possible. This customer’s mother was delighted with her very special gift of love. The next day, this caring daughter returned to our store and purchased eleven more Shirley Temple dolls to further surprise her mother. What a delight that must have been to witness!
Volunteering means working together and having fun at the same time. Determined volunteers collaborate to make the store attractive for our customers. Many shoppers have noticed and expressed their appreciation for the store’s appearance.
As you continue to shop and donate, you are contributing to many services that Assistance League provides. The proceeds from the store are used to help families and individuals in need in the Santa Clarita Valley. Donations are gratefully accepted behind the store on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 AM-Noon. For more information, visit our website: www.assistanceleaguesantaclarita.org
