Experience the Benefits of Laparoscopic Spay – Treehouse Animal Hospital
A laparoscopic spay, also known as a minimally invasive spay, is a cutting-edge alternative to a traditional spay. This procedure is performed using a laparoscope, a small camera and light that allows the inside of the pet’s abdomen to be viewed on a monitor and perform the surgery with only a few small keyhole incisions. The desired tissue is then removed via a blood vessel sealing and cutting device resulting in very little blood loss and minimal trauma to the patient. In a traditional spay, a larger incision is made and this same tissue must be torn or ripped from its attachment to the body wall which results in the bulk of the pain associated with a traditional spay.
The benefits of choosing a laparoscopic spay over a traditional spay are considerable:
Reduced Pain: The smaller incision and reduced internal trauma results in considerably less pain.
• Faster Recovery: Pets typically return to normal activities much quicker, often within a day or two.
• Less Risk of Infection: Smaller incisions minimize the exposure of internal organs with less bleeding.
At Treehouse Animal Hospital, our commitment to minimally invasive surgery extends beyond spay procedures. We also offer:
• Laparoscopic Assisted Gastropexy: to prevent GDV, also known as bloat.
• Laparoscopic Assisted Cystotomies: to remove bladder stones.
• Laparoscopic Liver Biopsies.
Dr. Ashley Dewey has been performing non-invasive procedures for over 7 years and has trained beside world renowned surgeons. She has also received her certificate in minimally invasive surgery for both rigid (laparoscopy and rhinoscopy) and flexible (endoscopy and bronchoscopy) procedures.
