Investing in Our Community – Assistance League
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
This quote by Lao Tzu, a Chinese philosopher, applies well to students who are this year’s recipients of Assistance League® of Santa Clarita scholarships.
Nine seniors in the William S. Hart School District and four students from College of the Canyons received scholarships provided by the local chapter of Assistance League. Their journeys toward their educational and vocational goals will be greatly supported by the financial assistance provided by the chapter.
Through our partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation, five students were selected to receive Assistance League scholarships. The recipient at Canyon High School will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall and plans to be a writer, while the recipient at Hart High school will attend CSUN and is the first in her family to attend college. Saugus High School’s senior will be attending UC Irvine as a psychology major, and West Ranch High School’s senior will be attending Otis College of Design, majoring in costume design. The recipient at Valencia High School will be attending San Diego State University, and will be the first in her family to attend college.
In addition to the above recipients, counselors at Bowmen, Canyon, Golden Valley and Hart High School each identified one senior who consistently demonstrated qualities important for future academic and vocational success: motivation, determination and a strong work ethic.
Through the College of the Canyons Foundation, Assistance League of Santa Clarita has provided four additional scholarships: two students in the Inspire Scholars or Empowerment programs and two adults returning to school to further their education.
This is the second year Assistance League of Santa Clarita has awarded scholarships to local high school seniors and College of the Canyons students. All recipients have demonstrated perseverance and persistence in spite of all obstacles, discouragements and impossibilities that might have come their way. Assistance League of Santa Clarita is proud to recognize their grit and provide them with a scholarship to support their future goals.
