Popular July 4th Race Returns Independence Day Classic Celebrates 40th Year – Adds New Event and Title Sponsor
The 40th Annual Independence Day Classic, hosted by the Santa Clarita Runners, is back and better than ever. This longstanding tradition kicks off a day of exhilarating races and community spirit, set against the vibrant backdrop of Santa Clarita’s Fourth of July festivities.
Occurring on July 4th, the event boasts a variety of races suitable for all ages and abilities. Participants can choose from a 5K run/walk along the parade route or a fast-and-flat 10K along South Fork Trail; for those who want even more, the “15K Challenge” combines both races. The Kids K once again offers the young ones a chance to join in the excitement and earn a special commemorative finisher’s medal.
New for 2024, the event will include the “Heritage Sierra Senior Walk,” a flat one-mile out-and-back course that includes just enough of the parade route to provide some added encouragement.to this year’s participants. The Senior Walk was created with Heritage Sierra Medical Group, who has joined the Independence Day Classic in 2024 as a title sponsor for not only the Senior Walk, but also the 5K run/walk.
The festivities commence bright and early, with the 10K starting at 7:00 a.m., followed by the Kids K at 7:45 a.m. The 5K run/walk and Senior Walk both start at 8:00 a.m. All races begin and end on the streets adjacent to Newhall Park, 24923 Newhall Ave, Santa Clarita, CA 91321, providing a picturesque setting for participants and spectators alike.
Registration for the Independence Day Classic is now open, and participants can register online at id5k.scrunners.org. A special discounted registration is currently available and the fee includes a race tech shirt, finisher’s medal, and complimentary race photos as part of the registration package. Also, new for 2024, all participants will receive a post-race treat from Kona Ice!
Businesses and individuals interested in supporting the event and promoting their brand can explore sponsorship opportunities by contacting racedirector@scrunners.org.
