How Did A 1960’s Italian Chicken Get Priced? – Assistance League

by | Jul 23, 2024 | Community

To start, I should answer the question: How did Assistance League® Resale Store acquire a chicken (actually, he’s a proud rooster) made in Italy during the 1960’s?  The answer: the Santa Clarita Valley community members support Assistance League of Santa Clarita by donating items they no longer need. It may be clothing, shoes, and both common and unique houseware items. Those unique items are my favorite. They can span the world and be from decades past. Etched depression glassware can take my breath away!  But, back to the Italian rooster.
Our member volunteers (Yes, no one is paid monetarily. Instead, they are paid with the knowledge that their time given is for the benefit of our community’s youth.) set the rooster’s price by using technology. Yes, there is an app for that! Using Google Search, the rooster was scanned and within seconds the app foun an identical rooster being sold somewhere on the internet. Amazing! We reference that price and mark the item pleasantly less than the listed price.  For example, the Italian rooster was found on eBay for $36.00. Members cleaned him, and then price tagged him at $18.00.
Lastly, he was placed on the floor for customers to find. That’s where I discovered this item of beauty while I was shopping. My purchase had an added bonus. The knowledge that the proceeds from my purchase are used to fund Assistance League’s various philanthropic programs which provide new school clothes, eye exams and glasses, books, scholarships and teddy bears for those in need.
Want to know what happens when you show a child kindness and generosity? It touches their soul and becomes a fond memory. Those fond memories develop into a desire to help others when they reach adulthood and that builds a caring community.
On my kitchen window sits a colorful Italian rooster that reminds me how a unique find at a resale store can touch the life of a child. How simply wonderful is that?
