Scott Schauer for College of the Canyons Board A New Direction for Change
Scott Schauer’s candidacy for the College of the Canyons (COC) Board comes at a pivotal time when the community seeks leadership to address concerns about transparency, accountability, and prioritizing student success. Schauer brings a clear message: the board needs change, and he is the leader who can provide it.
Schauer’s decision to run stems from his belief that the institution has drifted from its mission. Over time, the focus on students has diminished, and Schauer is committed to bringing that focus back. His leadership philosophy centers on putting students first, not as a slogan but as the foundation of his campaign. He understands that for COC to serve its community effectively, every decision must prioritize students. His platform includes enhancing educational opportunities, expanding access to resources, and improving the overall student experience.
Schauer is also committed to supporting the faculty and staff who play a critical role in the college’s success. He recognizes that educators and staff often face the burden of limited resources. His collaborative leadership style seeks to ensure that faculty and staff are valued and supported. By fostering a positive working environment, Schauer believes the college can better provide students with a high-quality education.
Another key element of Schauer’s platform is fiscal responsibility. With years of experience managing complex budgets, Schauer brings a fresh perspective to financial oversight. His approach is rooted in transparency and careful planning, ensuring that resources benefit students and staff. He is committed to maintaining COC’s financial stability while investing in programs and services that make the most significant impact.
Restoring trust between the board and the community is one of Schauer’s top priorities. Concerns about transparency and accountability have created frustration. Schauer promises to address these issues by increasing openness in decision-making and ensuring the community’s voice is heard.
Beyond education, Schauer has demonstrated a deep commitment to the community. He currently serves as President of the SCV Sheriff Foundation and is the past Executive Director and board member of The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer. Additionally, he has served on The COC Foundation Board and SCV Youth Project Board. For the past 30 years, Schauer has owned The Santa Clarita Soccer Center, promoting youth sports and community engagement.
With Scott Schauer on the COC Board, the college can expect a renewed focus on students, improved support for staff, and restored trust within the community.
