Turkey Day Tips – No Place Like Home
The Thanksgiving holiday can be a wonderful time for both pet owners and their furry friends, with these tips managing pets during the holidays can help.
If traveling, considerations may involve pet-friendly accommodations. Make sure your lodging is pet-friendly. If you’re taking your pet along, ensure they are comfortable and safe during the journey. Use a secure pet carrier or seat belt harness.
If you can’t take your pet, consider hiring a pet sitter or using a boarding facility. Ask trusted friends or family to care for your pets in your home.
Safety first. Keep holiday decorations unreachable, as certain items (like tinsel, small ornaments, and certain plants) can be harmful to pets.
Be cautious with holiday foods. Foods like chocolate, grapes, and certain nuts can be toxic to pets. Share some safe, cooked turkey (without seasoning) or pumpkin with your pets, but avoid giving them any bones. Educate guests not to feed your pet table scraps that could be harmful.
Try to maintain your pet’s feeding and exercise schedule. Provide toys and activities to keep them entertained, especially during gatherings or when a lot of activity is going on. If you’re hosting gatherings, introduce your pets to guests gradually to avoid overwhelming them.
Create a quiet area for your pet to retreat to if they feel stressed.
By keeping these tips in mind, you can ensure that your holidays are enjoyable and safe for both you and your pets. For more information about No Place Like Home please email info@noplacelikehome.vet or call/text 818-400-1986.
