American Cancer Society End of the Year Giving
In August, the American Cancer Society lost one of its most devoted community leaders. Nancy Coulter was the recipient of American Cancer Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award and past ACS Leadership Council president. When I called Nancy some time ago for suggestions in writing an article about charitable giving, I knew she would be helpful. Nancy shared with me what she did when her kids were little to teach them about giving from the heart, developing compassion for others, and feeling the gratification of donating to help make the world a better place.
Nancy suggested selecting an activity that the family could do together like going to a movie or eating out, but rather than going, donate the cost of that activity to the American Cancer Society. Instead, have a family game night or have the family prepare dinner together. Make the evening conversation about cancer awareness and how your family is making a difference to those whose lives have been touched by cancer.
With the season of giving upon us, Nancy’s idea enhances the value of making a donation. Choosing a way to actively participate not only creates awareness about cancer but deepens one’s sense of involvement. We feel a shared sense of commitment to help ACS provide services to cancer patients in our valley and support valuable research. Being informed is important, and the American Cancer Society’s comprehensive website provides current research, expert information on cancer symptoms treatments, and support services. This makes it easy to learn and share knowledge with loved ones. When someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, the American Cancer Society is a one stop destination for answers, care, and support.
ACS would like to express its gratitude to community members for their generous support. It’s inspiring to have so many volunteers, donors, and community leaders creating a partnership that works toward saving lives every day. Nancy said, “When we work together, we realize that a solution for a cure is inevitable! This year, make a donation you won’t forget and that will make you feel really good!”
