Pond Damage!
Somebody was in my pond last night. Was it that darn cat next-door? Or was it something more wicked? My pond was in shambles, fish missing and evidence of my pond plants looking like coleslaw.
How many dangers really exist out there, in the dead of the night while I sleep. There are raccoons, skunks, herons, egrets, and possible coyotes, bears, water snakes, bullfrogs, and feral cats that could be in your yard at night.
Domestic cats don’t fish in the garden pond because they are hungry, they are just fascinated by the colorful fish.
What type of damage will these animals and birds do in a pond? For starters, the four legged ones can really turn a pond upside down when they get frustrated by not catching the fish right away and will empty your potted water plants into the water. The water birds are excellent fisherman, with excellent memories in regards to pond locations. Both kinds of predators know where the food bar is located in the neighborhood.
How do I protect my beautiful pond and fish? Have a pond that is deep enough with no shallow areas, placing rocks and trees and you’ve done 80% of the work. There are also motion-activated scarecrows, low-voltage electric fencing, monofilament fishing line, and netting.
