Raising the Curtain Foundation To Present Cowboys and Charles Phoenix
Two great shows are coming to the Newhall Family Theatre in April. First, the Cowboy Family Night, sponsored by Hart & Main, returns on Friday, April 11, followed on Sunday, April 27 by a first-ever SCV appearance by the Ambassador of Americana, Charles Phoenix.
“Cowboy Family Night” features the talented Kristyn Harris Trio, comprised of Hailey Sandoz on fiddle, Matthew Walton on steel and electric guitar and the multi-award winning, legendary queen of Western swing, Kristyn Harris herself on guitar and vocals, as well as Cowboy Festival favorite, Sourdough Slim and his sidekick, Robert Armstrong. Sourdough has been called “The Last of the Vaudeville Cowboys” and the duo will perform comedy, accordion and saw shenanigans and some unforgettable music.
Along with their individual numbers, Kristyn and Sourdough will conduct a “yodeling” lesson for all, which was a real crowd pleaser last year! The evening concludes with a singalong of a few popular Western songs that will leave audiences smiling and humming tunes from the prairie. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under, and are available from www.cowboyfestival.org.
“An Afternoon with Charles Phoenix” will feature Phoenix at his original best – every show he does is different! With his keen expertise, unbridled enthusiasm, and spectacular collection of vintage images, Charles unleashes the stories and glories of space-age style, mid-century marvels, local landmarks, roadside wonders, fund foods, festive fashions, colorful car culture, futuristic transportation and more galore.
Known as a performer, author, explorer and collector who celebrates classic and kitschy American life and style, Charles Phoenix is a legend in his own time. Along with his slide shows, he is known for his classic car “Joyride” videos, colorful coffee table books and fun field trip tours. Tickets for “An Afternoon with Charles Phoenix” are only $25 and are available at www.raisingthecurtainfoundation.org.
The Newhall Family Theatre is located at 24607 Walnut Street in Newhall with convenient parking around the auditorium and in an on-campus lot.
Raising the Curtain Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the Newhall Family Theatre for the Performing Arts, an inclusive performance venue for members of the community, artists, students, and educators.
