Relay For Life Team Captain Recruitment
On May 3, 2025, Santa Clarita will hold its 27th annual Relay For Life at Central Park— 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, 91350, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Organizers are currently recruiting team captains for the event. Nationwide, the American Cancer Society is calling 2025 “The Year of the Team Captain” to emphasize the importance of team leaders who raise funds and spread community awareness about Relay.
Team Captains play a vital role in fundraising for Relay and ensuring that each team’s event runs smoothly on the day of Relay. When leading a team of family, friends and co-workers, captains build a special bond among team members. They provide guidance to answer questions and solve problems.
To assist new and experienced team captains to successfully build a team and promote the mission of the American Cancer Society, ACS provides a Relay For Life Team Captains Kit. The Kit includes fundraising strategies, team recruitment, event preparation, and digital tools like the ACS FUNdraising App. The kit also contains goal-setting worksheets, survivor registration details, and Relay Rewards information.
According to Becky VanLoon, nationwide Relay For Life lead volunteer, “I can tell you from experience, this is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.”
The Team Captain Guide is located at https://www.acsresources.org/relayforlife/teamcaptain/. Captains can also reach out to the Team Captains Council with questions at teams@scvrelay.org.
If you can’t commit to becoming a team captain this year, there are many opportunities to take a leadership role in helping to organize the Relay event. Volunteers are needed to fill important positions. Work to expand online and social communications. Help to honor caregivers and survivors in the community. Promote awareness through sales of luminaria bags to honor or memorialize a loved one.
This year get involved with Santa Clarita and help end cancer as we know it, for everyone. Start a team! Join a team! And participate the fulfilling work of ACS volunteers who have transformed countless lives through their tireless efforts.
