Teens Making a Difference in their Community Assistance League® of Santa Clarita
Assisteens®, a youth auxiliary of Assistance League® of Santa Clarita, is dedicated to promoting volunteerism through service, leadership development, and fostering a sense of community responsibility. This dynamic group currently includes 57 students from grades 7 to 12.
Meeting monthly during the school year, Assisteens plan and implement philanthropic programs that benefit residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. Guided by a 12 member board and 7 adult mentors, these young volunteers engage in meaningful projects that make a difference.
Each month, Assisteens members write birthday cards and prepare birthday bags for homebound seniors, spreading cheer and companionship. Every fall, they pack backpacks with essentials for children and youth entering foster care. Additionally, the group organizes two annual food drives to support the Inspire Scholar program at College of the Canyons, helping to combat food insecurity among students.
The highlight of their year is a party for the residents of LARC Ranch. Assisteens plan an unforgettable event with a food truck, decorations, dancing, and even a photo booth to capture the fun moments.
Beyond their independent projects, Assisteens work closely with the adult chapter of Assistance League. They volunteer every Saturday at the Resale Store, gaining valuable skills while supporting the chapter’s programs and fundraising efforts. They also assist at all Operation School Bell® shopping events at JCPenney.
Assisteens will be accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year in April. If you’re interested in joining this inspiring group, please contact Lori Wilson at lori@assistanceleaguesantaclarita.org. For more information, you can also visit their Instagram page at SCVAssisteens.
