Loneliness, Social Isolation and Koi… What is the Connection?
The world has an epidemic of loneliness and social isolation. In 2023 the US Surgeon General did a comprehensive consensus paper on the healing effects of social connection and isolation.
In 2022, the American Medical Association identified loneliness as a public health issue. Between the pandemic and increased use of social media, we have isolated ourselves into a corner of a medical quagmire.
Did you know that social isolation is the equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day or drinking 6 alcoholic drinks daily! So how can joining the SCV Koi Club help with your health?
1. You meet monthly with knowledgeable, fun aquatic enthusiasts
2. You learn new and interesting facts on koi and their care needs
3. You learn about pond troubleshooting, construction, design and various filtering systems
4. Get to meet professional koi breeders
5. Participate in our annual baby koi growth contest
6. You get to meet your Santa Clarita neighbors
7. You get to be outside with your new friends
8. Your mind and senses are stimulated seeing various beautiful pond creations
9. Admission is free!
By staying connected with SCV Koi Club or by just meeting new neighbors, that social connection and effort improves your overall physical and mental health. We want to extend our invitation to the SCV youth interested in starting a new hobby with Koi.
