Second Annual Juneteenth Game Night – NAACP Santa Clarita
The NAACP Santa Clarita Branch proudly announces its second annual Juneteenth Freedom Day Game Night, a festive celebration of culture, history, and community empowerment, taking place on Thursday, June 20, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Centre (20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA). This year’s event is supported by Santa Clarita Magazine as a contributing sponsor.
Juneteenth, recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, commemorates June 19, 1865—the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to finally inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom. The day symbolizes both delayed justice and the enduring strength of the Black community.
“We created this event to honor that legacy in a way that brings people together,” said Veronica Walker, spokesperson for the planning committee. “Game Night is a vibrant, inclusive space that recognizes Juneteenth not just as history, but as a celebration of progress, family, and joy.”
RLynn Smith-Thomas, President of the NAACP Santa Clarita Branch, emphasized the event’s deeper purpose: “Juneteenth is a day to remember the resilience of our ancestors and recommit to the pursuit of justice and equity. We are excited to welcome the community to an evening of games, laughter, and reflection, all while supporting the educational goals of our youth.”
Proceeds from the event benefit the NAACP Santa Clarita Future Leaders Scholarship, which provides financial support to promising local students committed to leadership and service.
