Prepare Your Plumbing For Fall and Winter – Bob’s Rooter & Plumbing
As the crisp autumn air settles in, we know cooler weather is just around the corner. While we love the fall season here in Santa Clarita, it also brings with it some plumbing challenges that every homeowner should be prepared for. So, before the holidays and the chill of winter hit, here are a few tips to make sure your plumbing is ready for the change in seasons.
First, now’s the perfect time to check your outdoor plumbing. With temperatures starting to drop, it’s essential to winterize your hoses, sprinklers, and outdoor faucets. If you haven’t already, make sure to disconnect any hoses from exterior faucets and drain them to prevent freezing and damage. You can also add insulating covers to your hose bibs to protect them from the cold.
Another important fall task? Check your pipes for any signs of wear or damage. While our winters aren’t as harsh as in other parts of the country, the occasional cold snap can still cause pipes to freeze and crack. Check your crawl spaces, attic, and any exposed pipes for insulation and secure fittings. This is especially important if your home has older plumbing or if you’ve had issues in the past.
With the holidays fast approaching, your kitchen plumbing will be getting a lot of extra attention. If you’re planning on cooking large meals, now’s the time to give your garbage disposal a little TLC. Be mindful of what you put down the drain—fibrous vegetables, bones, and grease can all lead to clogs. Running cold water when using your disposal can also help prevent jams.
At Bob’s Rooter & Plumbing, we’re always here to help you prepare for whatever the season brings. Whether you need a quick plumbing check-up or help with more serious issues, we’re just a phone call away.
Wishing you a safe, warm, and clog-free fall season!
