LEAP Children’s Museum Announces Leadership Transition Founder Kari McCoy Passes Presidency to Carl Ermelbauer, with Emily Lytle-Painter Named Vice President
LEAP Children’s Museum today announces a strategic leadership transition. Founder and President Kari McCoy will pass presidential duties to Carl Ermelbauer, with Emily Lytle-Painter stepping in as Vice President, effective October 21st, 2025.
This marks a key milestone in LEAP’s evolution, from a visionary startup concept to a growing community institution focused on long-term sustainability and expansion.
Founded by McCoy alongside a dedicated team of volunteers and community leaders, LEAP has grown from a concept into a vibrant educational movement in Santa Clarita. Together, they built pop-up exhibits, community partnerships, and hands-on programs that have inspired thousands of children and families.
“LEAP was never something I built alone,” said McCoy. “It was created with a passionate team that believed play could transform learning. Now, with Carl’s financial and strategic expertise and Emily’s deep grounding in museum education and practice, LEAP is ready for its next phase. I’m proud to support them as they turn our shared vision into a permanent reality.”
Ermelbauer, known for his strong background in financial management and business development, will lead LEAP’s efforts to secure a permanent facility, expand partnerships, and strengthen its financial foundation.
“I’m honored to continue what Kari and the team started,” said Ermelbauer. “LEAP has proven what’s possible when a community invests in children’s creativity and curiosity. Our focus now is sustainability to build something that will last for generations to come.”
As Vice President, Emily will focus on program development, operations, and community engagement, ensuring LEAP continues to deliver meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Her background in museum studies and practical experience in museum settings bring essential leadership skills to complement Carl’s strategic and fiscal focus.
LEAP’s Board of Directors also includes Secretary Katie Simpson, Treasurer David Meggison, and board members Kari McCoy, Cesar Torres, Alexander Hafizi and Anita Singh also Jimmy McCoy serving as a Board Advisor and Jesse Suarez as Legal Advisory. Together, this diverse and passionate leadership team continues to guide LEAP toward its mission of inspiring lifelong learning through play and discovery.
