Spooked to Perform? VIBE Performing Arts
October brings with it all things spooky—pumpkins glowing, ghosts in the night, and… stage fright? For many performers, the scariest part of the season isn’t the haunted house down the street but stepping onto a stage in front of an audience. The good news is, you can face that fear head-on and turn it into fuel for your best performance.
Stage fright is a natural response. Your heart races, your palms sweat, and suddenly, even the simplest lines or lyrics seem to slip away. Instead of viewing those nerves as an enemy, think of them as your body’s way of preparing you to shine. Adrenaline sharpens your focus and gives you energy—if you learn to channel it.
Here are a few tried-and-true strategies:
• Prepare, prepare, prepare. The more confident you are in your material, the less room fear has to creep in.
• Breathe. Slow, calming breaths before going on stage help settle your nerves and center your mind.
• Visualize success. Picture yourself performing with confidence and the audience responding with smiles and applause.
• Start small. Share a song or monologue with a friend, then build up to larger groups.
Remember, every performer you admire—from Broadway stars to recording artists—has felt those same jitters. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s stepping forward in spite of it. This October, don’t let stage fright haunt
Why not work to build these tools in your or your children’s lives? The success of education depends upon cooperation between teacher, student, and parent. VIBE Performing Arts endeavors to help all students experience excitement and dedication necessary to help them succeed in life as well as on stage.
