Time for New Celebrations – Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra
Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra announces the release of their 2025-2026 season. Their theme this year is centered around celebrating the musical roots of the orchestra and the community, starting with a celebration of home.
In their inaugural concert of the season, SCSO brings New Celebrations on October 12. Inspired by the beauty of his home in Bohemia, Smetana’s Moldau evokes the beauty of its countryside, while Borodin’s bold and lyrical Symphony No. 2 draws on the richness of the composer’s Russian roots. Weber’s Andante et Rondo features one of their own—principal bassoonist Tyler Harper—while the new work Vampire Waltz by composer Nathaniel Edison celebrates a fresh voice from their community. Bookended by works inspired by identity and home, this concert also marks new conductor Martín Alexander Arellano’s own homecoming to California after a decade away.
“I am beyond excited to be returning home to southern California and joining Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra as its new conductor,” said Maestro Arellano. “We are looking forward to a wonderful season of music making and continuing the powerful impact that the Symphony has on the community of Santa Clarita.”
Executive Director Ashley Turner shared “A fresh, new vision is coming to Santa Clarita Symphony Orchestra with the arrival of our new Music Conductor, Alex Arellano. We are thrilled for our upcoming concert on October 12, which perfectly embodies this new era by showcasing exceptional talent from our own community, featuring an aspiring composer and our principal bassoonist as soloists. It’s a powerful testament to the incredible musicianship that thrives right here in Santa Clarita. We look forward to seeing you there!”
Nathaniel Edison revealed the story behind his piece, Vampire Waltz. “A newborn, mutilated at birth, is rejected by his parents and left on the streets to perish. Seventy-four years later, he encounters his mother for the first time after a lifetime of despising her. They wordlessly share a dance together.”
