Why Annual Lab Work Matters—Even for Healthy Pets – No Place Like Home
When pets seem happy and healthy, it’s easy to assume everything is fine under the surface. But just like with people, some of the most important health changes in dogs and cats happen silently—long before symptoms appear. That’s where routine lab work comes in.
Pets age much faster than we do—on average, one year for us is like seven for them. That means a lot can change in just 12 months. Annual lab work is essential for catching early signs of illness, especially changes in kidney or liver function, blood sugar, or thyroid levels.
For pets over the age of eight, I recommend lab work every six months. These semi-annual check-ins help us stay ahead of age-related changes and manage chronic conditions before they impact your pet’s quality of life. Early detection allows us to adjust diet, medications, or supplements to support healthy aging.
As a mobile veterinarian, I make it easy to get this important testing done right from your home. No stressful car rides or crowded waiting rooms—just a calm, comfortable visit in your pet’s familiar environment.
Even if your pet seems perfectly fine, lab work confirms they are. It also gives us a valuable baseline to compare future results, making it easier to spot subtle shifts early on.
Preventive care is one of the best gifts we can give our pets—because peace of mind and proactive health go paw-in-paw. For more information about No Place Like Home please email info@noplacelikehome.vet or call/text 818-400-1986.
