Santa Clarita Parrots Helping Veterans
Plans are underway to create a peaceful little bit of paradise, where local veterans can spend time with beautiful large exotic parrots. An opportunity to experience some of nature’s healing powers. Parrots intuitively pick up on our emotions, sensing a need, even wanting to comfort us with affection or just being nearby. “They will press their head against you, like a deep hug, because they already know you need it, without you even saying a word! These amazing birds can live for 70-100 years, and having memories like elephants, may have a few things to share with us!” as explained by Suzon Gerstel, CEO of Prayer Angels for the Military, Inc., the 501c3 non-profit organization creating the parrot healing program for hometown veterans.
Prayer Angels, based in Placerita Canyon for more than 20yrs, will continue sending care packages to hometown troops, while expanding their services to include a healing program for veterans with the help of large exotic parrots. A peaceful place specifically designed for healing, rest and rejuvenation. An environment supporting emotional recovery and overall well being, allowing veterans to clear their minds from stress and focus on self care. A private place to feel safe, unobserved, and to find refuge during difficult times, especially from the pain and suffering from PTSD.
Research shows that interacting with birds, a nature based therapy, most definitely has therapeutic benefits, including decreases in depression, anxiety and stress. Also accounting for enhanced emotional well being and has even improved some medical conditions. Suzon, with over 30 years of avian experience with large parrots and birds of all sizes, is honored to add this needed healing program for our veterans, also making it easier for those who have difficulty traveling long distances for a similar program.
Fundraising is under way and donors are very much needed. Tax deductible donations payable to Prayer Angels for the Military can be mailed to
