Ring in the New Year with Improved Hearing – Audiology Associates
New Year’s Resolutions are designed to be life changing, inspirational and empowering. Each January, millions of us make some sort of New Year’s resolution. To lose weight, quit smoking, save more money, spend more time with family, etc. This year, why not add getting help for your hearing loss? After all, hearing is arguably our most important sense because it affects our ability to communicate with others. And communication shapes every facet of our lives.
Over 36 million (17%) Americans have some degree of hearing loss making it a public health issue – third in line after heart disease and arthritis. When left untreated, hearing loss alone can lead to a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. Impaired memory and the impaired ability to learn new tasks, reduced alertness and increased risk to personal safety, irritability, negativism, anger, fatigue, tension and stress are among its more common side effects. Hearing loss isn’t a harmless condition to be ignored.
The value of self-confidence through improved hearing is extremely important. Many people withdraw socially as communication becomes difficult or embarrassing. This loss of self-esteem adversely affects relationships. Fortunately, these situations can be improved. Research indicates that professionally fitted hearing aids can help improve quality of life for people when hearing loss exists. First, the hearing impaired person, friends and family must acknowledge the presence of the hearing loss, and the challenges it creates. Then, remember that good humor, willingness to experiment, and tolerance for trial and error learning are very helpful. With some training, experience and ingenuity, these problems can be minimized or resolved.
We would love to assist you in improving on social relationships, professional relationships and most importantly, your self-esteem! Getting a hearing aid is not just about hearing better, it is about fully engaging in life. Enjoy conversation with your friends and family, enjoying music, the sounds of laughter in your children’s and grandchildren’s voices. The whole idea of New Year’s Resolutions is to take a look at what could be improved in our lives.
