What’s Your New Year’s Resolution? Assistance League of Santa Clarita
Have you heard about Assistance League® of Santa Clarita? We are a nonprofit organization with over two hundred member volunteers who give not just their time but their hearts to help children and families in the Santa Clarita Valley. From providing new school clothes to supporting struggling families, our members strive to make a difference every single day. Assistance League of Santa Clarita’s mission is to transform lives and strengthen community.
Volunteering at our Resale Store
There are several wonderful places to volunteer within The Resale Store, and each one has its own personality. One of them is what I’ve lovingly called “The Sauna.” That was my nickname for our donations center before we had an awning installed because it was very warm working in the strong sunlight. I volunteer in donations on Fridays with the same amazing group of members. Together, we greet drivers as they arrive and help unload a wide variety of donated items. Some of these items have been in families for years; parting with them can be emotional. We’ve heard stories filled with heartache, transition and hope. Through it all, we offer kindness, gratitude and a warm smile (sometimes even a much-needed hug). It’s a place where compassion and community come together in the simplest moments. Join us, we would love to have you. Volunteers for donations are needed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 AM to Noon.
The Spa: Where the Magic Happens
Next, we have “The Spa”—the lively heart of our operation where all the sorting and pricing takes place. On any Monday morning, you’ll find at least thirty members working together like Santa’s elves, unpacking, cleaning and preparing the many treasures donated to us.
Some volunteers arrive as early as 7:00 AM to get a head start. By 8:00 AM others are hurrying in as if they’re punching a time clock—not because they must, but they are genuinely excited to get everything ready for the store. They volunteer because they believe in what we do for our community. We have no paid staff. Every hour spent here is given with joy, pride and heart.
The Monday Warriors: Our Creative Dream Team
We also have a dedicated crew we proudly call the Monday Warriors—and trust me, they live up to their name! Just like a well-coordinated team, they design and decorate the entire store each week. They do a fabulous job dressing the mannequins, arranging dinnerware sets and making sure every corner looks perfect and inviting. Their creativity transforms the store so that when we open on Tuesday, everything is fresh, beautiful and ready to make our shoppers smile.
If your New Year’s Resolution is to get involved, give back to your local community and make new friends, we’d love for you to join us! Stop by The Resale Store at 26045 Bouquet Canyon Road, and chat with our friendly volunteers about how you can become a member. Or if you’d like to learn more call or text me at (917) 499-6947. I would love to tell you all about our wonderful organization and how you can be part of it.
Come and help us help our community. It might just be the most rewarding resolution you ever keep!
