Nonprofit SCV Project Linus Hosts Make a Blanket Day on March 28
Local nonprofit chapter SCV Project Linus is hosting Make a Blanket Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the COC East Gym. Project Coordinator Sharon Garvar, along with her Academy of the Canyons students who run the organization, said they need donations to stock their blankets and other valuable materials. The blankets are shared with children who are ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. Garvar said her students are committed to giving back in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley, and local businesses are also demonstrating support.
“We have been hosting Make a Blanket Day for years and we are grateful to the students and parents in our community; they continue to show up,” Garvar said. “Our goal for this year’s event is 650 blankets. It’s truly a group effort, and Logix Federal Credit Union continues to sponsor us. Together, we can make a difference.”
Instructions on how to make a blanket, as well as the types of fleece that can be used for blanket-making – anti-pill and blizzard, are available at www.scvprojectlinus.org. Students and residents alike can register on the website, selecting the time they would like to stop by the COC East Gym.
“Since 2018, we have been sponsoring SCV Project Linus and their efforts to bring comfort to our community. This opportunity also allows for students adults to connect,” said Alethia Calagias, Community Relations Manager at Logix. “This is a cause that anyone and everyone can get behind.”
For those who want to make blankets at home, they can drop off at the event and will receive two service hours for each blanket.
