Breaking News: There’s a Baby Kangaroo Animal Tracks
Meet Joey, our sweet little red kangaroo who now calls Animal Tracks home!
Joey hopped into the Animal Tracks family when he was just a few months old, arriving through our wonderful partner sanctuary, Conservation Ambassadors. We’re so excited to be part of his journey and watch this little guy grow!
Joey may be six months old, but he’s still living the baby life. In the wild, kangaroo joeys spend months riding around in their mother’s pouch, and Joey hasn’t given up that cozy habit yet! His pouch is the ultimate nap spot.
Our Director Stacy Gunderson, a lifelong animal behaviorist with a big heart for wildlife, leads our incredible volunteer team in caring for Joey. But let’s be honest…Stacy is basically Joey’s full-time kangaroo mom. From bottles and meals to social time and enrichment, Joey receives round-the-clock care to help him grow up healthy, confident, and very, very loved!
Joey may be small now, but those strong kangaroo legs are just getting started. As he grows, he’ll spend his days bouncing, exploring, and discovering everything around him. Red kangaroos are the largest marsupials on the planet and come from the vast open landscapes of Australia…so this little guy has some big, bouncy adventures ahead!
Adult male red kangaroos can grow over six feet tall and weigh more than 200 pounds…basically the size of a very athletic linebacker! They can hop up to 35 miles per hour and leap more than 25 feet in a single bound. And that big tail? It helps them balance and even works like a third leg when they’re just casually strolling around.
For now though, Joey is still little and learning something new every day. He’s discovering the world one tiny hop at a time, while enjoying the comfort of his pouch and the care of the people who love him!
So if you hear a little boing…boing…boing around Animal Tracks, don’t worry, it’s probably just Joey practicing his hops! Come meet Joey and all his amazing animal friends by booking a tour at www.animaltracksinc.org
