Relay For Life Offers Fundraising Challenges
In May, 1985, Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising money to help the American Cancer Society with the nation’s biggest health concern: cancer. The extraordinary journey that began with Dr. Klatt’s vision sparked a global movement, uniting communities to fight back against cancer.
Over the decades, Relay For Life has transformed into a worldwide symbol of hope, remembrance, and collective determination. Today, Relay For Life has become a global movement with more than 3,000 events across 37 countries and 6 continents. Funds raised through Relay events directly support research, education, advocacy, and services for people with cancer and their families.
Relay For Life of the Santa Clarita Valley invites the community to join this year’s Relay to honor lost loved ones, celebrate cancer survivors, and light the way for everyone impacted by a cancer diagnosis. The event will be held on May 2, at Central Park – 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
SCV Relay is announcing the first two of April fundraising challenges for Relay teams. The Heroes of Hope Pennants Challenge offers any team that registers at least 5 members who raise $50 each a limited-edition pennant that can be proudly displayed at the team’s booth at Relay. The deadline for this challenge is April 12. The second is a special opportunity to recognize loved ones. From April 1 to April 19, any participant who raises $250 in new donations will be awarded a Tribute Sign that honors a loved one and will be displayed around the field at Relay. Participants who collect $250 on their personal fundraising dashboard will be contacted to submit a photo and name for the dedication.
Join the fundraising movement in April and participate in Relay For Life’s worldwide impact on cancer awareness. Join the passionate supporters who embody the American Cancer Society’s vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.
