Supporting Youth on the Path to Independence – Fostering Youth Independence
Every young person deserves the opportunity to build a stable, successful future. For many youth who grow up in foster care, however, the transition into adulthood can be especially challenging. That’s where organizations like Fostering Youth Independence (FYI) make an extraordinary difference in our community.
Based in the Santa Clarita Valley, FYI is dedicated to supporting young adults who are aging out of the foster care system. Each year, many foster youth turn 18 and suddenly find themselves navigating adulthood without the family support system that many of us take for granted. FYI steps in to provide guidance, resources, and a supportive network that helps these young people move forward with confidence.
In addition to providing resources and meeting immediate needs, FYI equips foster youth with the tools and support they need to complete a post-secondary education, foundational for lifelong stability and success. Each youth is paired with a caring adult volunteer “Ally” who offers consistent encouragement, guidance and emotional support. FYI’s programs provide academic assistance, tutoring, financial counseling, driver training, and help with college and trade program applications, securing student financial aid, filing income taxes, accessing safe housing and more!
If you would like to learn more about the important work they do, FYI is hosting an Open House on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 25816 Tournament Road in Valencia. This welcoming event offers the community an opportunity to meet the FYI team, connect with youth and alumni who have been impacted by the organization, and hear firsthand about the programs that are helping change lives.
Guests will also have the chance to learn about volunteer opportunities and ways to get involved. Whether through mentoring, donating, or simply spreading the word, community support plays a vital role in helping foster youth build brighter futures.
Coffee and refreshments will be provided, and everyone interested in learning more is encouraged to attend. It’s a great opportunity to see how a caring community can come together to empower young people and help them achieve independence.

Together, we can help ensure that every young person has the support they need to thrive.
