Growing A Community – Assistance League® of Santa Clarita
For over 30 years, Assistance League® of Santa Clarita has provided support to students and families in the Santa Clarita Valley with its philanthropic programs. Operation School Bell®, Assistance League’s signature program has provided over 40,000 students with new school clothing and shoes. The icare for kids program furnishes students, whose vision is affecting their schoolwork, with eye exams and eyeglasses and Birthday Books brings a gift of books into students’ homes and classrooms to encourage a love for books and reading.
With a desire to encourage and help students continue their educational journey after high school, Assistance League began its scholarship program four years ago. Understanding that scholarships are essential for reducing tuition costs, as well as assisting with costs related to school supplies and materials, fees, transportation, food and housing, Assistance League scholarships were established for students who have been faced with challenges in their lives that have made their academic journey difficult and demanding. By allowing hardworking and determined students to focus on their studies, rather than continually face financial stress, recipients can pursue opportunities for academic success and personal growth, while realizing their education and life goals.
Assistance League currently awards seventeen scholarships to seniors in the Hart District, as well as students in the Adult Re-Entry and Inspire Scholars Programs at College of the Canyons. Recipients pursue careers in a wide range of academic and vocational fields. Receiving these scholarships validates the hard work and determination of each student, as well as providing ways to network, develop relationships, and opportunities to be contributing members and leaders of this community.
