Mischief, By Name…and Absolutely By Personality – Animal Tracks
At first glance, Mischief looks like something out of a dream! Long legs, oversized ears, and a golden coat dotted with bold black spots. But spend even a few minutes with him, and you’ll quickly understand how he earned his name!
Mischief arrived at our sanctuary in December 2021 as a 12-week-old owner surrendered, originally believed to be a Savannah hybrid. It didn’t take long to realize…we had been slightly undersold. Mischief is, in fact, a full-blooded African serval, which explains the ears, the attitude, and the complete disregard for personal space.
He is stunning! He is curious! He is also a professional-level instigator!
Mischief has a favorite hobby: sneaking in a “playful” swipe just to see what you’ll do. It’s adorable…right up until you remember that this is not your average house cat. This is a long-legged, lightning-fast, built-like-an-athlete wild cat who occasionally forgets his own strength. And by “occasionally,” I mean…often.
It’s very easy to get lulled into a false sense of security with him. One minute you’re thinking, “Aww, he’s so sweet,” and the next you’re re-evaluating your life choices and your reflex speed.
When he’s not keeping everyone on their toes, Mischief enjoys going on supervised walks in his harness, where he struts like he owns the place…because, in his mind, he does. His favorite hangout is a hay-filled barn, where he plays “King of the Hill,” which mostly involves climbing to the top and judging everyone beneath him.
Mischief is a perfect reminder that wild animals are not meant to be house pets. They’re too smart, too active, and just a little too well-armed for comfort. What looks like play is instinct…and it doesn’t come with an off switch.
He’s beautiful! He’s hilarious! He keeps us humble!
