Child & Family Center Receives Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture Grant To Support Trauma-Informed Art Training for Domestic Violence Services
Child & Family Center is honored to announce it has received a grant through the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture to support specialized training for Domestic Violence Program Case Managers in A Window Between Worlds, a nationally recognized healing arts program designed to support individuals and communities impacted by violence and trauma.
A Window Between Worlds is dedicated to using art as a healing tool to empower and transform individuals and communities affected by violence and trauma. Its approach, often described as “Art Transforming Trauma,” uses creative expression in safe, supportive environments to help survivors release trauma, build resilience, and experience hope, safety, and healing.
Through this grant, Child & Family Center’s Domestic Violence Case Managers will receive training to incorporate trauma-informed art practices into their work with survivors of domestic violence and their children. The Center operates the only 30-day emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors in all of the Santa Clarita Valley. These tools will enhance the Center’s ability to provide meaningful, accessible, and healing-centered services for individuals and families recovering from abuse.
“Survivors of domestic violence often carry deep emotional trauma, and healing can take many forms,” said Nikki Buckstead, President and CEO of Child & Family Center. “This training will give our case managers another powerful way to support survivors and their children as they process their experiences, rebuild their sense of safety, and move toward hope and healing.”
Child & Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program provides free and confidential support to survivors and their children, including emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline, counseling, legal advocacy, case management, and supportive services. The addition of trauma-informed art-based practices will further strengthen the program’s ability to meet survivors where they are and provide compassionate, client-centered care.
Child & Family Center extends its deep appreciation to the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture for recognizing the important role the arts can play in healing and recovery. The Center also thanks Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger for her continued support and leadership in ensuring that women, children, and families impacted by domestic violence have access to safety, support, hope, and healing.
For nearly 50 years, Child & Family Center has provided critical mental health, substance use, domestic violence, prevention, and family support services to children, youth, adults, and families across the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities.
