It Only Takes a Second Distracted Driving Is Increasing. Here’s What That Means for You – Trevino Law Firm
Most people don’t think of themselves as distracted drivers.
They may not be sending text messages or scrolling social media behind the wheel. Instead, it’s a quick glance at a GPS, responding to a notification, adjusting music, or turning around to talk to a passenger.
The problem is that even a few seconds of distraction can have serious consequences.
According to traffic safety experts, distracted driving continues to be one of the leading causes of accidents on California roads. When a driver takes their eyes off the road, even briefly, they can travel the length of a football field without fully paying attention to what’s happening around them.
At our firm, we’ve seen firsthand how quickly lives can change because of a momentary lapse in attention. A rear-end collision. A missed stoplight. A driver who never saw a pedestrian in the crosswalk. What seems like a minor distraction can lead to significant injuries, medical treatment, missed work, and months of recovery.
What makes distracted driving particularly frustrating is that it is almost always preventable.
The good news is that awareness helps. Putting your phone away, setting navigation before driving, and eliminating distractions whenever possible can significantly reduce risk for you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road.
If you or someone you love has been injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver, understanding your rights and options is an important first step.
