Well the holidays are over, and for our club, we have the opportunity to slow down a bit. Before I go any further, I would like to say “Thank You” to all who contributed to our annual food and toy drive. Every year I say we are not going to do it and every year this community never ceases to amaze me. We are so lucky to live in a community where giving is part of our existence and for this we are all grateful. A special thanks go to the students of our La Mesa JOOI (Junior Optimist Club), who, along with other students in the school and staff, really took us over the top with their food and toy donations. The Optimist theme is “Bringing out the Best in Kids,” and these kids continue to do so.
Please note the picture of our annual “Santa’s Magic” at Peter J. Pitchess Honor Ranch in Castaic. A special thanks to Nancy of Nancy’s Tree Ranch for her continuous support of our project, each year the tree gets bigger and more beautiful. I would be remiss if I did not thank the Sheriff’s deputies and personnel, California Highway Patrol and for the first time, a big helping hand from the county thanks to the efforts of Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
To all our students under the age of 16, don’t forget there is still time to get involved with the Optimist Oratorical Contest, please contact me for information.
Within the next few months we will be honoring some students for our annual “Youth Appreciation Program” and will be presenting our “Respect for Law Program” as well. We will announce the results in an up and coming article.
Membership is what our club exists on, so if you feel like you would like to get involved and give back something to this great community that we live in, stop by and see us sometime. We now meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at La Rumba or call for information.
Until next month.
