Michael Jackson dies from complications brought about to a large degree by overtaking and misusing prescription meds.  Brittany Murphy dies from conditions that are yet to be disclosed.  Coroner’s office needs more time (possibly a request from family members to stall the release of info so the media can move onto the next sorry story), but there are indications that her prescription meds are partly responsible too.  The same is for Avenged Sevenfold rock drummer, James “the rev” Sullivan.  He was only 28 and Murphy was 32.  “Natural causes” is sometimes listed in these cases, but what the heck is natural about dying at 28 or 32?
Celebrities are often told yes to many things they shouldn’t.  It’s no different for you or me.  Medical doctors are primarily focused on your physical wellness and always aware of the risk of addiction.  Used incorrectly these drugs are dangerous and most people don’t know it.  It is estimated that up to 25 percent of manufactured prescription level drugs are on the street.  Many of these drugs find their way into our high schools and colleges and even into the lives of our family members and loved ones, including parents who are simply uninformed about the risks and are well intentioned.  I hope someday that there will be better legislation regarding prescription meds, but until that day comes we must look after ourselves and loved ones.
Please do not take prescription meds without first exploring all your other options for feeling better.  Sometimes prescription meds are not the answer and unless you’re suffering from a high level psychiatric disorder you may not need them.  Get second opinions, third opinions and, by the way, most Bi-Polar diagnoses are wrong!  See a professional who has an anti-drug philosophy and see what they can do for you or your kids to work through emotions and mental conditions.  As a drug counselor I see the damage that Xanax, Cymbalta, Prozac, Vicodin, Oxy, Paxil, Seroquel, Valium and so many others do.  As a Life-Coach and Hypnotherapist I see better methods for helping people that are effective and permanent.
