We wake up in the morning after a good night’s sleep and open our eyes and see the world.  How is it that we are able to see this world?  It is definitely an amazing process that occurs, involving the sciences!  With the help of optics and physics, we are able to define the amazing process that occurs to enable us to see. The visual system is activated by light rays (photons).  These light rays penetrate through the front part of the eye (cornea), through the lens in the eye, towards the back of the eye (the retina).  The retina is the bed that contains the receptors of light (rods and cones).  Then these rods and cones send this information through a network of nerves to the back of the brain (the occipital lobe).  At the occipital lobe the object that is viewed is finally interpreted.  In a nutshell, that is how we are able to see.
