Don’t be caught off guard by new roadway speed control trailers at various locations on Santa Clarita Valley roadways.  New state funding allocations are driving the purchase of ten of them to deter speeders in the unincorporated communities of Southern California.  The investment follows the findings of a recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showing that speeding was a contributing factor in nearly half of all fatal accidents last year.

Speeding continues to be a major public safety concern for motorists and pedestrians in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, says Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

The trailers will use radar technology to track the rate of speed of an oncoming vehicle and will then display that speed next to what the posted speed limit is for the roadway being traveled.  The digital technology will warn motorists to slow down if they are speeding.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will deploy the speed monitoring trailers.

“Thanks to the CHP, we have a powerful partner in our effort to save lives,” says Antonovich.

The trailers are at roads edge four times each week at designated rotating areas.  Currently, they are recording valuable data on the numbers of cars traveling various routes and the reduction or lack of reduction of motorists.  The data is compiled and reviewed in relation to the number of speed-related traffic accidents as a way of tracking increases and decreases.  With tracking and monitoring like that, speeding could soon become passé.
