Celebrate spring onboard a Fillmore & Western Railway vintage train ride. The orange and lemon blossoms and wildflowers are in full bloom and the aroma in the valley is intoxicating. As you drive through the Heritage Valley on Highway 126 there is no mistaking what season it is. Everywhere you look, you see the blossoms on trees and the newly sprouted row crops and flower beds.
Spring train rides include Shake, Rattle & Rail, a 50s-era train ride to Santa Paula on the first Friday night of each month. During the journey passengers are treated to 50s-style diner food. In Santa Paula, passengers walk one block to the downtown district to view the classic car show and listen to sidewalk bands. During the trip back to Fillmore there will be dancing to 50s and 60s tunes on the open-air dance car.
Every Saturday and Sunday year round, families board the train for a leisurely ride to Santa Paula on the Weekend Scenic Excursion. Once in Santa Paula, travelers can visit the California Oil Museum, the new Santa Paula Art Museum or take a self-guided walking tour of the world-class murals on the sides of historic downtown buildings. A 1928 parlor car serves as the diner onboard these weekend trains and has a regular restaurant menu to choose from. A gift car and outside rider are also attached to the weekend train and passengers are encouraged to “walk the train” and explore all the different railcars.
Bring the family to celebrate Mom and Grandma on Sunday, May 9. “Throw Mama on the Train” is the theme for a relaxing Mother’s Day Luncheon Train ride.
