“I’m hanging at CTG,” says Olga Kaczmar proudly, president of Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA). The Canyon Theatre Guild will be featuring Kaczmar’s art in their hallway gallery from July 2 to Sept 3, 2010. The exhibit will run concurrently with the performances of Neil Simon’s hit comedy, The Odd Couple.
Come on down to the artist’s reception held on August 5, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the Newhall Art Walk on Main Street. The public is invited. Please RSVP at 661-254-5267. Kaczmar paints dogs, cats, horses, landscapes, children and flowers – something for everyone – in pastels, watercolors and oils. See www.olgakaczmar.com.
Manak Khamvongsa, guitar teacher and performer currently living in the Santa Clarita area, will provide entertainment at the reception. Originally from Thailand, Manak’s solo repertoire includes traditional classical Spanish guitar, jazz arrangements and original compositions.
Canyon Theatre Guild (CTG) is located at 24242 Main Street in Newhall. Phone 661-799-2702 for theatre times. CTG produces ten full-scale productions each season. As each performance changes, so does the artwork, which is presented by members of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association.
Kaczmar teaches art at the SCV Senior Center. “This is a great deal for artists (at any level) and you don’t have to be a senior to take classes! It is $40 for a three-month semester and you can come three days a week to learn from three different teachers,” she says. “It’s an outstanding bargain.”
The Art Walk is a new addition to the farmer’s market in the lovely landscaped, downtown Newhall. There is always fine western entertainment and Evie Cook will be showing her inspirational canvases at OutWest. Presently she paints and does graphic design, as well as giving art lessons in her various media and computer art. SCAA member Cook has won many awards in several different media categories. Her expertise can be previewed at www.studiobohemienne.com.
Come support local talent at the live theater, buy fresh, locally-grown produce at the Farmer’s Market (Thursdays 3 p.m. to 7 pm) and view art made in Santa Clarita along Main Street (first Thursday of each month).
