Transportation, water, education and healthcare were but a few of the topics on the minds of Santa Clarita Valley Chamber CEO, Larry Mankin and a group of high-profile citizens from the Valley who recently traveled to Washington D.C. on an annual trip.

Business, education and government leaders met with Washington bureaucrats, including U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein.

“Her team was really interested in what we had to say,” said trip participant Dena Malone, Dean of  Economic Development for College of the Canyons, ”We are seeking federal support to launch a medical lab tech training program.  Many people don’t realize what a shortage there is of trained professionals in the field.  In fact, there is only one other educational program in the state of California.”

Among numerous other sterling moments during the three-day trip were the first-time meeting with government representatives from the federal branch, held in the old executive office building, in order to share Santa Clarita Valley priority and funding needs and another meeting with the National Endowment for the Arts regarding the funding opportunities for local dance, music, performance and fine arts programs.
The trip was the third annual one of it’s kind.
