“It was an enchanted evening!”
“I missed my prom in 1936 because I had joined the Army.”
“It’s a dream come true!”
These were statements from SCV seniors who attended The Senior Prom, sponsored by the Fil-Am Association of SCV held at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on Sunday, November 14.
The evening started with a Senior walk that is equivalent of Hollywood’s red carpet runway, a photo booth was set up so seniors can have a picture taken by Leo Carillo to take home. Ladies wore prom-worthy clothes, some in beautiful gowns and other in cocktail dresses, while gentlemen in suits with ties and bow ties. They look so radiant.
The hall was transformed into prom central. Decorations all planned by Fil-Am President Mul Tayoba himself with white and burgundy tablecloths, bouquet of roses as centerpieces, candles lit, and photo coasters as give away made it so elegant. Masters of ceremonies were Adrian Tan and Kat Kombrinck. Invocation was led by Msgr. Richard Martini. Turkey and ham dinner with all the trimmings was served and enjoyed by all. Entertainment provided by a DJ and a live band, courtesy of Bong Hebron and his band ,Wikked. Everyone was on the dance floor, the biggest hit was the line dancing but the band played the chacha, rumba, waltz and rock n roll. They were showing off their dancing moves. Nanette Imperial was showing off her corsage but I wonder if she bought it herself or Pete her husband for 44 years got it for her. She said it brought back memories of her own senior prom. A surprise number led by myself, singing and dancing to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary joined by seven seniors from the Tuesday Club as my background dancers. Everyone on their feet to see how we can move to the beat!
The prom court was announced near the end of the evening. Judges Gladys Ehrhardt, Kevin Prescious and Yoly Morton awarded the queen’s tiara on the hair of Prom Queen Selina, and the puffy kings crown to James Scott, first runner-up Barbie Scott and escort Chuck and second runner-up to Jeanene Turner-Grigsby and escort Christopher.
“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this, so we didn’t really know what to expect but we can tell from the seniors faces, it’s a big success,” Fil-Am President Mul Tayoba said.
This Prom Nite will linger in our memories for a long time and unites SCV seniors. We’re looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Linda Crawford, chairman of the Senior Program Committee and it’s members. Donations were accepted and proceeds will go the Fil-Am’s senior program and to the SCV Senior Center. Happy Holidays!
