The Blue Star Moms of America, Santa Clarita chapter member, Sarah Slotterbeck of Newhall wrote the following to her son Christopher Nicholas Slotterbeck who is in the Navy, stationed in Korea.
Chris
My son that is so charming, his smile that warms my heart
He’s everything I dreamed of and I’ve know it from the start
He’s all grown up and handsome, he’s made me proud
He knows what he is doing, his heads not in the clouds
I dreaded the day he’d leave me, I hated the very thought
Although I knew he’d do it, It’s the Navy that he sought.
He’s doing what he dreamed of, he’s living his own life,
He’ll succeed at all he tries to do before he takes a wife.
I could not be prouder of the boy that is my son
My Chris, please know I love you and you have already won.
You made a choice and followed through and there you sit today
Making your dreams happen in each and every way
The sky is the limit for all you choose to do
What you want for, you will have, it is strictly up to you
My pride is overflowing, as I think of you today
My love is everlasting and will never go away
I love you son with all my heart, I pray the best for you
I support all your decisions as you will follow through
God has blessed me with a son to whom I’m watching grow
I pray that all my wisdom, to him, I did indeed bestow
Watch over my boy, dear Lord as he becomes a man
Keep him safe within your arms as this must be your plan
When he feels the weight of loneliness upon his shoulders bare
Give him warmth within his heart that he’s not alone out there
When he feels he can’t continue and he wishes to give in
Give him strength to carry on and dig for it within
When he finally does succeed and pride is in his heart
Let him know we all believed in him right from the very start.
I love you forever and always, Mom
