The Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley was successful in competing for an $8,500 grant that will enable the Center to begin a much-needed Teen Outreach Program aimed at helping teens dealing with domestic violence. The incidence of domestic violence is a growing concern and one of the fastest growing victim groups are teenagers.
While additional funding is needed to continue and expand the Teen Outreach Program, the initial grant funds from The John Gogian Family Foundation will allow the Domestic Violence Center to develop the needed program.
“There is a need in the community for a comprehensive teen program to address domestic violence. We know that and with this new grant, the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley will finally be able to provide this much-needed program here in Santa Clarita,” explains Jorja Harris, President of the Board for the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley.
Discussions have already begun with Bowman High School to participate in teen outreach later this year.
