The perfect date that almost was.
Let me start by asking if you are familiar with the saying, “This never happens to me.”  Well that’s how I felt until just recently.  It was a cold day in January.  I had just finished a long day at work and decided to pick up a few things at the store on my way home.  Little did I realize what was about to happen?  I parked right outside the store and walked in.  As I entered the store my eyes were fixated on a very nice looking lady.  She was headed for the exit, and as I was looking at her she lifted her head and looked right back at me, and gave me a very big smile.  She had the kind of smile that could just melt you, and launch a thousand ships.  Okay, a hundred ships.  The point is, that it was a great smile.  Now we are within a few steps of passing each other, and I am just getting ready to say hello to her.  To my surprise, she says hello before I could.  I immediately thought back to one of my columns when I told my readers to say hello when they see someone in a store they might be interested in.  I kind of wondered if she had read that column.  So I said hello back.  Ok now the million dollar question, what should I do now?  Should I ask her out on a date?  Maybe get her number, complement her outfit, tell her she is very pretty, nah she knows that.  As I pondered what to say I realized that I never expected this to happen to me.  Not in Santa Clarita today, where everyone seems to be in a hurry, and no one can take the time to say hello.  It is too late; she is already out the door and getting in her car.  I did not follow through, and I was left wondering what could have been.  While I finished my shopping, I thought to myself that I would be prepared next time a nice lady says hello to me.  I have not seen her since, but if we do ever meet again, I will give her an open invitation to dinner any time.
