Whether it’s a sparkle in the eye of a proud father as he dances the waltz with his daughter at the culminating event of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild’s Silver Rose Debutante Program, a sense of pride on a mother’s face as her daughter reads a meaningful poem about their relationship at the debutantes’ Mother-Daughter Tea, or a deepening sense of community connection through volunteerism, joining the debutante program has created memories of a lifetime for many debutantes and their parents.

As the 2007-2008 debutante season nears, young women from the Santa Clarita Valley and nearby communities and their parents are invited to learn about the program’s educational and social components.  Young women participating in the program will join a distinguished group of intelligent, goal-oriented debutantes who have achieved success across a multitude of industries including television directing, teaching, nursing, investment trading, fund-raising and clinical research among numerous others.

“The debutante program provides practical, real-world education about etiquette in social, academic and business settings,” said Guild President Virginia Hart. “These skills are immeasurably beneficial in college, business and life.”

Seniors in high school and college freshman are eligible to participate in the Silver Rose Debutante Program run by the hospital Guild.  Participation involves 50 hours of community service, hosting a party, teas and fund-raising events, such as the Guild’s Fall Fashion Show and the culminating event of the season, the Silver Rose Debutante Ball.  The Guild also offers a Junior Debutante Program for juniors in high school.

Volunteering is a component of the program that instills a sense of community pride in the debutantes.

“The gift of volunteerism allows the debutantes to connect with other people in the community and provides the extraordinary gift of giving,” said Hart.

Applications for the Silver Rose Debutante Program are now available through the Henry Mayo Health Foundation Office or online at www.henrymayo.com. The deadline to apply is July 15.
