The mission of the Canyon Theatre Guild is to make a better place by entertaining, educating, enlightening and enriching our community through quality live theatre.  This month the 35-year-old professional-quality guild actors will be performing one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet. During the five-week run, Joshua Smith will breathe life into the Romeo character and Romeo’s love, Juliet will be played by Leah DiPaola.

Themes of family feuding, young love and the concept of marrying without family consent are presented in the traditional signature Shakespeare way.  It will certainly entertain and challenge the minds of those who love a drama.

On a lighter note during the month of February, visit the theatre to see Patricia MacLachlan’s Newbery award-winning story, Sarah Plain and Tall.  Also, with themes of love, it is filled with wisdom and gentle humor.  The New York Times calls the play, “An exquisite, sometimes painfully touching tale.”

Romeo and Juliet will run every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. through February 24 with Sunday matinees on February 4 and 11.
Sarah Plain and Tall will have matinee showings every Saturday at 1 p.m. through February 24th.  They will also be offering twilight performances on Sunday, February 4, 11 and 18th with one Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. on February 18.

Tickets prices for Romeo and Juliet start at $9 for juniors and seniors and $11-$14 for adults.  Sarah Plain and Tall tickets range from $9 to $14 each.  Group discounts are also available.

With the selection of plays this month and the quality of acting, directing and set designs, the Canyon Theatre Guild certainly continues to meet and exceed it’s mission goals time-and-time again.
