Broken legs and other warm wishes were shared from all actors in the Hart District during the Annual Theatre Festival on February 25, 2011.
The past festival was the eighth year the Hart District has planned the event at College of the Canyon’s Performing Arts Center, with classmates, parents, and friends supporting their high school’s theater group.
Each student was judged by theater professionals from College of the Canyons and received inspiring criticism. The costumed scenes and monologues impressed many of the fellow students in the audience, with a few tears and many laughs shared throughout the day.
Tess Alexander, a theater student from Canyon High School, was glad she came to the event, saying, “This festival offers all sorts of workshops. I was selected to participate in the masks activity where I learned to get in tune with my inner-self that people tend to hide in for comfort”.
President of Valencia High School’s theater club, Devin Heath, reported his excitement, saying, “I like supporting fellow actors from other high schools. Everyone’s so friendly and you always end up with a few new friends”.
The event took place from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with drinks and pizza served to the students and teachers during the breaks.
